2018 Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation Scholarship Program

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF), the National Governing Body of the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP), is once again offering a scholarship program to reward deserving SCTP/SASP graduating seniors with needed college assistance. The main objective is to award as many scholarships as possible to qualifying SCTP / SASP graduating seniors.

Since 2013 SSSF has awarded over $300,000 in scholarship funds benefiting over 300 student athletes from 39 different states in the Scholastic Clay Target and Scholastic Action Shooting programs.

SSSF is establishing minimal guidelines for the selection procedure, thus allowing the final selection to be as simple as possible.

General Procedures:
Each applicant must be a graduating senior within the year of the awarded scholarship and must be registered for college before the scholarship is awarded in that same year.

  • Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative Grade Point Average through the most recent grading period ending on or before April 1, 2018.
  • Each prospective recipient must be registered as a full-time college student before the scholarship is awarded and must provide the name of the post-secondary college or community/ junior college to receive the scholarship proceeds. Each scholarship check will be mailed to the appropriate college in the student’s name by October 1, 2018. The scholarship funds are to be used for tuition, fees, etc. This is a one-time, non-renewable scholarship.
  • Applicants may not be in receipt of any “full” scholarship funds in order to qualify (i.e., athletics, military academy, academic, etc.).
  • Applicants must have participated during 2017-2018 in one of their SCTP / SASP State Championships, National Championships, or regional events in Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, or Olympic Bunker; Olympic Skeet Championships, Pistol or Rifle.

2018 Wisconsin SASP Banquet

Please join us on Saturday, March 24, 2018 for the Wisconsin spring Scholastic Action Shooting Program banquet hosted by Concordia University Wisconsin shooting team and sponsored by Newman Chevrolet.

The banquet will be held at the Ozaukee Pavilion at the Ozaukee County Fair Grounds in Cedarburg, WI. Doors open at 5 p.m. We’ll have raffles, silent auction, and a live auction with prizes including guns, trips and much more!

Ruger Donates P90 Manual Safety Pistol to Benefit Scholastic Action Shooting Program

Ruger Firearms has generously donated a blued manual safety model, .45 ACP, P90™ pistol to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). 

The pistol is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through February 28, 12:30PM eastern time.

Ruger® first introduced the blued manual safety model, .45 ACP, P90™ pistol in 1998. The serial number of this P90™ is 661-84178 and the testfire date is January 13, 1999. This pistol has never been fired beyond normal testing during manufacture. The manual safety model P90™ is made of hard-coated A356T6 aircraft quality aluminum alloy, chrome-molybdenum steel, and 6123 Xenoy resin grip panels. It features manual ambidextrous safety levers; a 4-1/2 inch barrel and high-visibility white-dot inserts on both the front and rear sights. The square notch rear sight is drift-adjustable for windage. Other features include an oversized trigger guard and full-time ambidextrous magazine latch. The P90™ Pistol will be shipped in a gray plastic lockable case along with two 7-shot magazines, magazine loading tool, original instruction manual and original marketing materials. The pistol is being sold “as is,” and the purchaser assumes all liability for its safe and proper ownership, storage, use, and resale. Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic is a trade show that will focus on wildlife conservation, upland game bird hunting (pheasant and quail), dog training, and wildlife habitat management and restoration. Registration for the 2018 Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) College National Championships is now open! Join us in Talladega, Alabama March 10 & 11 for a weekend of fun, camaraderie, and competition. Check out the Shooting USA feature on the 2017 College Nationals to see the event in action!

General Information

Match Fee: $50 per entry
Athletes may shoot centerfire or rimfire pistol and both rifle divisions if they wish. They may also compete in 1911 discipline as an additional gun, but must also compete in SASP centerfire or rimfire discipline.

Times:  7:30 am check in begins
8:45 am shooters meeting, safety briefing
9:00 am match begins

Shooting slots available for 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM flights Saturday and 9:00 AM Sunday
Friday practice bays open from Noon to 4 PM

REGISTRATION:  Log into your team in SHOT system, select Competitions, bottom left.  Click on the “Click to View Shoots” tab.  Then click on National Shoots tab.  Then select the shoot you want to participate to the right.  Then from there click on an open slot name your squad and enter the athletes. (If athletes do not appear in the drop down menu, check to be sure you have their SASP Classification entered in the team SHOT registration. Please register by Noon CST, Monday February 19 to guarantee an event t-shirt.

Please be sure to review the 2018 handbook for current rules. One or both of the new stages of fire may be used at the event.

Ruger Donates Early Model 77/22 to Benefit Scholastic Action Shooting Program

Ruger Firearms has generously donated an early model 77/22 bolt action rifle to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP).  The rifle is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through February 21, 12:30PM eastern time.

The Ruger 77/22® Model 77/22R was first introduced in the 1984 price sheets. This particular rifle, serial number 700-49960, was testfired October 21, 1985. The rifle features a blued 20-inch barrel with no sights. It has an American walnut stock with attached sling swivel studs and checkering on the pistol grip and forend. The stock has a molded nylon buttplate with an embossed Ruger eagle logo in the center. There is also a Ruger eagle logo inlaid in the pistol grip cap. The receiver incorporates the integral scope bases of the patented Ruger Scope Mounting System that accommodate the included 1-inch scope rings. A detachable 10-round magazine and original instruction manual, purchaser record card, and other marketing materials, are also included. The rifle will be shipped in its original bolt-action rifle box.

Ruger Donates Rare Blackhawk Revolver to Benefit SASP

Ruger Firearms has generously donated a rare and collectible Blackhawk .32 H&R Magnum – 32/20 Winchester convertible revolver. The serial number, 610-04726, tells us this revolver was test fired on April 18, 1989. The revolver is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through February 14, 12:30PM eastern time

Approximately 5,200 of these Blackhawk revolvers were built for Buckeye Sports Supply and marketed exclusively by them in the late 1980’s. The revolver features a blued finish; 6-1/2” barrel; and wood grip panels with a silver-colored Ruger eagle medallion. Other features include a .32 H&R Magnum cylinder; a .32-20 Winchester cylinder; an adjustable rear sight and ramp front sight. Etched on the top strap of the gun is the Buckeye Sports Supply trademark.

The revolver will be shipped in its original box along with all of its original paperwork and instruction manual. The revolver is being sold “as is.” The purchaser assumes all liability for its safe and proper ownership, storage, use, and resale. SSSF set to exhibit at NRA’s Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, PA

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation will be exhibiting at the NRA’s Great American Outdoor Show, February 3-11, at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, PA.

Ruger Donates two “U.S.” marked Mark II Pistols to Benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program

Ruger Firearms has generously donated two rare and collectible “U.S.” marked Mark II .22 LR caliber pistol to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program. The pistols are being auctioned on Gunbroker.com as follows:

We have for auction two “U.S.” marked Mark II .22 LR caliber pistols with a rollmark date of November 3, 1983. These are likely a proto-type of the MK678G training pistols manufactured for the U.S. Army from 1984 – 1986. The pistol has a heavy tapered 6-7/8 inch barrel. The “U.S.” stamp is larger than the contracted models, and the front sight is a higher Patridge-type fixed front sight.

Additionally, the U.S. Army pistols’ serial numbers began with prefix 210-. In 1983, Ruger was awarded a contract from the U.S. Army, Rock Island Arsenal for a .22 caliber target and training pistol for the U.S. armed forces. A new model was established to meet the U.S. Army’s requirements (catalog no. MK678G), and this was the first time Ruger Mark II pistols were equipped with 6 7/8″ bull barrels. The MK678G pistols were rollmarked “U.S.” on the right side of the barrel/receiver assembly, had finer sights, a roller-burnished chamber, and enhanced accuracy.

Special targeting methods were developed using a (then) new laser sighting system, which was later granted a U.S. patent. The laser targeting system worked very well during production, and each pistol was packed with a target attesting to its compliance with the U.S. Government accuracy standards for such pistols. The duration of the contract lasted until 1986, and the Company ultimately shipped over 17,000 pistols to the U.S. Army. No “U.S.” marked pistols were shipped commercially during the period of the government contract.
