Walker’s Renews Platinum Level Sponsorship With SASP

Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) has announced that Walker’s, LLC has renewed their Platinum Level Sponsorship for 2018.

Ruger M77 Mark II Express Rifle Auction to Benefit SASP

Ruger Firearms has generously donated a Ruger® M77® Mark II Express Rifle to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). The rifle is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through April 25, 12:30PM eastern time.

This week’s auction is a 7mm Rem Mag caliber Ruger® M77® Mark II Express rifle. The Express models were first introduced in 1992. The serial number on this rifle is 760-01613, and the roll mark date is July 22, 1992. The M77® Mark II Express rifles were initially made within the “780-“ prefix serial number range. After a few hundred Express rifles were built, the serial numbering was then changed to the “760-“ prefix. This rifle has not been fired beyond normal factory testfiring. The rifle features a 24-inch blued barrel with matted quarter rib and is factory machined to accommodate Ruger scope rings. It has a blade front sight and v-notch rear express sights: one stationary and two folding that is drift adjustable for windage. Other features include a black composition forend tip and black rubber recoil pad with embossed Ruger® eagle logo. The steel pistol grip cap also features the Ruger® eagle logo. The M77® Express rifle has a steel hinged floorplate and trigger guard with a staggered box magazine that holds three cartridges. The stock is polyurethane-finish French walnut with checkering on the pistol grip and forend. A set of sling swivels and a set of scope rings are included with this rifle. It will be shipped in the rifle box it had been stored in along with an original manual and marketing materials. The rifle is being sold “as is.” The purchaser assumes all liability for its safe and proper ownership, storage, use, and resale. Please note that the winning bidder of this auction is responsible for paying the Federal Excise Tax. The rifle is a part of the Ruger factory collection in Southport, Connecticut, and a Certificate of Authenticity will be mailed to the winner of the auction.

Taurus USA renews Silver Level Sponsorship with SASP

Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) announced today that Taurus USA has renewed their Silver Level Sponsorship of their program for 2018.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) is the national governing body for the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP), offering youth from grade school through college the opportunity to safely participate in exciting team-based action shooting sports!

SASP is designed to instill in young people a set of personal values and character traits for fair play, compassionate understanding, individual responsibility, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and personal commitment. As the sport itself, these qualities will stay with them throughout their lifetimes, helping each young athlete reach his or her full potential. Athletes compete using .22 rifles, .22 handguns and/or centerfire handguns. Targets are steel circle or rectangular plates and all courses of fire are timed events.

RUGER Single-Six “Friends of NRA” Auction to Benefit SASP

Ruger Firearms has generously donated a New Model Single-Six® “Friends of NRA” to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). The revolver is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through April 18, 12:30PM eastern time.

This New Model Single-Six® has a serial number of 264-45812, and the rollmark date is December 30, 2003. This revolver is one of a limited production run of Single-Six® revolvers used as auction items at “Friends of NRA” events held around the country in 2004. The revolver features cocobolo grip panels with the “NRA” logo medallions. This blued revolver has a 6-1/2 inch barrel with a ramp front sight and a click adjustable rear sight The cylinder is marked “17 HMR CAL” and the Ruger Eagle logo and “.17 HMR” are stamped into the top strap. It will be shipped in the gray plastic revolver case it had been stored in along with an original instruction manual, purchaser record card, and cable lock. The revolver appears to have not been fired beyond normal testing during manufacture, and is being sold “as is.” The purchaser assumes all liability for its safe and proper ownership, storage, use, and resale. Walton Added as New SASP Director of Development

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation is pleased to announce Mr. Kelvin Walton is joining the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) staff as Director of Development. Walton will report to Rick Leach, SASP National Director.

“SASP is excited to have Kelvin join our staff and help grow SASP,” said Leach. “Kelvin’s past business experience as well as serving as both a SASP and a SCTP coach gives him the knowledge to explain both our youth development programs to schools, future athletes, and coaches as he works with them to get more athletes participating in our safe and enjoyable sport.”

After 20 years of full time military and law enforcement service, Kelvin spent the last 8 years as a manager with a global private security company.  He will be able to utilize his strong management, leadership and organizational skill to help grow SASP.  Kelvin is pursuing his master’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in non-profits.

Kelvin was a longtime youth baseball coach and started out as a parent volunteer with SCTP and SASP. He is an assistant trap and pistol coach with Ozaukee Scholastic Shooting Sports (WI) and holds current  NRA Level 1 Pistol coach, Level 1 Trap coach, and Range Safety Officer certifications.  Kelvin has assisted with SASP and Pheasants Forever banquets.  He also works with local veterans groups and helped coordinate a fundraising trap shoot for Healing Patriots.

“I am excited to be part of SASP and promoting youth shooting sports,” said Walton. “I look forward to working with existing teams and helping new teams start up. ”

Walton’s first day with the SASP will be April 9th and he will be working primarily from his home office in Grafton, WI.

RUGER® Engraved 50th Anniversary 357 Mag Blackhawk to Benefit SASP

Ruger Firearms has generously donated a revolver to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). The revolver is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through April 25, 12:30PM eastern time.

The Ruger® Blackhawk® single-action revolver in .357 Magnum was Sturm, Ruger’s first-ever centerfire revolver and is the foundation of the legendary Ruger single-action family. Available only in 2005, the 50th Anniversary New Model Blackhawk offers a unique opportunity to own a revolver with the look and feel of the original “Flat Top” design and all the benefits of 50 years of continuous refinements. Like the 1955 Ruger Blackhawk, the 50th Anniversary New Model Blackhawk is chambered in .357 Magnum with a 4-5/8 inch barrel. It offers many original features including a blued, original Blackhawk-size “Flat Top” frame with a micro-adjustable rear sight, and a smaller pre-1962 “XR-3” grip frame with checkered “hard rubber” grips bearing original-style black Ruger medallions. This 50th Anniversary New Model Blackhawk has a serial number of 520-02060 and was roll marked March 16, 2005. It was shipped to Automated Finishing for engraving work and features a Western-style scroll engraving on the top strap, cylinder, cylinder frame, and grip frame. This engraved model WAS NOT a regular production. The revolver has been stored in its original red plastic 50th Anniversary Blackhawk case along with an anniversary booklet, original instruction manual, marketing materials, case lock and keys. Auction for Ruger 25th Anniversary .44 Carbine

Ruger Firearms has generously donated a 25th Anniversary .44 Carbine rifle to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). The rifle is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through April 4, 12:30PM eastern time.

The serial number is 103-13221 and the rollmark date is September 29, 1982. In 1985 Ruger announced that, after 25 years of continuous production, it would stop manufacturing the famous Model 44 autoloading carbine. Ruger offered a Special Edition of 1,800, 25th Anniversary .44 Carbine rifles to celebrate the close of an era. The anniversary rifle was listed in the 1985 catalog and the suggested retail price was $495.00. The 25th Anniversary Model 44 Carbine shows the compact design and classic lines which contributed to the great success of this model. These Limited Edition rifles are specially rollmarked “1961 – 1985 ~ 25th ANNIVERSARY” on the barrel, and they have a specially designed nickel silver medallion set into the walnut stock. Features of this rifle include an American walnut stock with a barrel band at the front of the forend. a folding-leaf rear sight with a reversible U/square notch plate adjustable for elevation and a gold bead front sight. The frame is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. It also features a curved, metal butt plate and tubular magazine that holds four cartridges. The 25th Anniversary .44 Carbine will be shipped in a special Anniversary box along with an original manual, purchaser record card, and a “Firearms Safety Depends on You” booklet. Also included in this auction is a .44 Carbine 25th Anniversary medallion, along with a “blank” box end label and a 25th Anniversary decal. REGISTRATION:  Log into your team in SHOT system, select Competitions bottom left.  Click on the “Click to View Shoots” tab.  Then click on Regional Shoots tab.  Then select the shoot you want to participate to the right.  Then from there click on an open slot name your squad and enter the athletes. (If athletes do not appear in the drop-down menu, check to be sure you have their SASP Classification entered in the team SHOT registration.  You may also pay online by clicking on the VOUCHER tab next to the Squad tab.

2018 SASP College Nationals

How did you spend your spring break?  Well 112 college athletes spent theirs competing for SASP National Titles in Alabama. On March 10 & 11 the Scholastic Action Shooting Program held our College National Championships at the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s Talladega Marksmanship Park in Talladega, AL.  We thank GLOCK for sponsoring our use of the Marksmanship Park and CMP for their great southern hospitality.  This year was the largest championship in SASP’s history, with 16 teams, 112 athletes and 201 entries.  That is a 100% increase in teams, 44% increase in athletes and 121% increase in entries over the 2017 championships.

Congratulations to all the teams that participated with many competing in their very first national championships.  This year the results were very close with many places being decided by just a few seconds and some by less than a second.

In the Rimfire Discipline the University of Vermont took first, followed by Michigan State University in second and Texas A&M finishing third.  In Centerfire Texas A&M repeated as National Champions and also took second, with West Point coming in third. In Optic Rifle the University of Vermont took first and third with Florida State University finishing second. In Iron Rifle University of Arizona won the championship by less than 5 seconds at their first nationals with Florida State University taking second and Clemson University taking third. In the 1911 discipline Michigan State University won the national championship, with Florida State taking second and Miami University of Ohio taking third in their first trip to the national championship.

In the Open Division, Rimfire Bethel University won the National Championship by beating second place Clemson University by just 1.66 seconds, with Bob Jones University finishing third.  In Centerfire Lake Country Action Shooters and Bob Jones University shared the title with Texas A&M taking second and the University of Florida taking third.  In Optic rifle Concordia University Wisconsin competing in their first SASP took the championship beating second place University of Wisconsin Platteville by just .98 of a second, and Lake Country Action Shooters came in third.  Iron Rifle the University of Wisconsin Platteville took the title beating their in-state rival Concordia University of Wisconsin who took second, with Bethel University taking third.  In 1911 Lake Country Action Shooters took first and Concordia University of Wisconsin took second.

Ruger Auction for early model 10/22® Carbine Rifle

Ruger Firearms has generously donated an early model 10/22® Carbine rifle to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). The rifle is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through March 28, 12:30PM eastern time.

This week’s auction item is an early model 10/22® Carbine rifle. The serial number is 111-44026. The rifle was manufactured May 3, 1972. The 10/22® Carbine rifle first appeared in the 1965 Ruger® firearms price sheets. This rifle had originally been sold to a distributor and returned to the factory. There are no notes as to why it was returned. This 10/22® Carbine Rifle has an uncheckered American walnut stock with aluminum buttplate. “MODEL 10/22 CARBINE – .22 L.R. CALIBER” is stamped on the left side of the receiver along with the Ruger eagle logo. The Sturm, Ruger address is stamped on the top of the barrel, and there is no manual warning on this rifle. Other features include: a blued 18-1/2 inch barrel; folding-leaf rear sight (adjustable for elevation); and gold bead front sight. Lyman was the original sights supplier and marked the rear sight blade with a triangular pointer below the curved sighting notch. The frame is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Also included in this auction are an appropriate instruction manual and 10-round rotary magazine. It will be shipped in the 44 Carbine rifle box it had been stored in. The rifle is being sold “as is.” The purchaser assumes all liability for its safe and proper ownership, storage, use, and resale. It is a part of the Ruger factory collection in Southport, Connecticut and a Certificate of Authenticity will be mailed to the winner of the auction.
