Ohio Steel Stingers Give Back

In the Spirit of giving back to our community the Ohio Steel Stinger athletes volunteered at on April 28, 2018 to run the bases with special needs children from the Greater Cincinnati, Ohio Area.  The Team joined the baseball players with various special needs at the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields in Fairfield, Ohio.

The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields at Hatton Park are the realization of one of several charitable works envisioned by the late major league pitcher and Reds broadcaster Joe Nuxhall.

Encounters with service organizations dedicated to helping children and adults with disabilities, as well as his association with amateur sports organizations of all kinds, led Joe to the realization that no baseball diamonds existed to facilitate unrestricted play for people with physical and mental challenges. He developed a resolve to provide such a ballpark for his community.

The Ohio Steel Stingers were partnered with individual players to help them hit the ball, run the bases, field the ball or just have fun.  Smiles were seen throughout the park from the players and their new buddies.

Ruger Police Service Six on Auction to Benefit SASP

Ruger Firearms has generously donated a Police Service-Six® .357 mag – 1986 revolver to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). The revolver is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through May 2, 12:30PM eastern time.

We have for auction a Ruger® Police Service-Six® double-action revolver. The serial number on this revolver is 159-93030, and the production date is April 10, 1986. The revolver had been shipped to a commercial distributor and then returned to the factory. There are no notes as to why it was returned. A letter “U” is stamped to the right of the serial number located on the bottom of the grip frame. The “U” indicates a used firearm. This .357 Magnum stainless revolver holds six rounds. The major parts are heat-treated chrome-molybdenum steel. Features include a 4” heavy barrel and fixed sights. It has a square butt grip frame featuring checkered walnut grip panels with silver-colored Ruger eagle medallions. Service-Six® revolvers were first introduced in 1971 and were in production through 1987. The GP100® double-action revolver, which is still in production today, replaced the Police Service-Six®, Security-Six®, and Speed-Six® revolvers. The Ruger® Service-Six® revolver is being sold “as is,” and the purchaser assumes all liability for its safe and proper ownership, storage, use, and resale. The revolver is a part of the Ruger factory collection in Southport, Connecticut, and a certificate of Authenticity will be mailed to the winner of the auction.

Ruger M77 Mark II Express Rifle Auction to Benefit SASP

Ruger Firearms has generously donated a Ruger® M77® Mark II Express Rifle to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). The rifle is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through April 25, 12:30PM eastern time.

This week’s auction is a 7mm Rem Mag caliber Ruger® M77® Mark II Express rifle. The Express models were first introduced in 1992. The serial number on this rifle is 760-01613, and the roll mark date is July 22, 1992. The M77® Mark II Express rifles were initially made within the “780-“ prefix serial number range. After a few hundred Express rifles were built, the serial numbering was then changed to the “760-“ prefix. This rifle has not been fired beyond normal factory testfiring. The rifle features a 24-inch blued barrel with matted quarter rib and is factory machined to accommodate Ruger scope rings. It has a blade front sight and v-notch rear express sights: one stationary and two folding that is drift adjustable for windage. Other features include a black composition forend tip and black rubber recoil pad with embossed Ruger® eagle logo. The steel pistol grip cap also features the Ruger® eagle logo. The M77® Express rifle has a steel hinged floorplate and trigger guard with a staggered box magazine that holds three cartridges. The stock is polyurethane-finish French walnut with checkering on the pistol grip and forend. A set of sling swivels and a set of scope rings are included with this rifle. It will be shipped in the rifle box it had been stored in along with an original manual and marketing materials. The rifle is being sold “as is.” The purchaser assumes all liability for its safe and proper ownership, storage, use, and resale. Taurus USA renews Silver Level Sponsorship with SASP

Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) announced today that Taurus USA has renewed their Silver Level Sponsorship of their program for 2018.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) is the national governing body for the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP), offering youth from grade school through college the opportunity to safely participate in exciting team-based action shooting sports!

SASP is designed to instill in young people a set of personal values and character traits for fair play, compassionate understanding, individual responsibility, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and personal commitment. As the sport itself, these qualities will stay with them throughout their lifetimes, helping each young athlete reach his or her full potential. Athletes compete using .22 rifles, .22 handguns and/or centerfire handguns. Targets are steel circle or rectangular plates and all courses of fire are timed events.

RUGER Single-Six “Friends of NRA” Auction to Benefit SASP

Ruger Firearms has generously donated a New Model Single-Six® “Friends of NRA” to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). The revolver is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through April 18, 12:30PM eastern time.

This New Model Single-Six® has a serial number of 264-45812, and the rollmark date is December 30, 2003. This revolver is one of a limited production run of Single-Six® revolvers used as auction items at “Friends of NRA” events held around the country in 2004. The revolver features cocobolo grip panels with the “NRA” logo medallions. This blued revolver has a 6-1/2 inch barrel with a ramp front sight and a click adjustable rear sight The cylinder is marked “17 HMR CAL” and the Ruger Eagle logo and “.17 HMR” are stamped into the top strap. It will be shipped in the gray plastic revolver case it had been stored in along with an original instruction manual, purchaser record card, and cable lock. The revolver appears to have not been fired beyond normal testing during manufacture, and is being sold “as is.” The purchaser assumes all liability for its safe and proper ownership, storage, use, and resale. The revolver is a part of the Ruger factory collection in Southport, Connecticut, and a Certificate of Authenticity will be mailed to the winner of the auction. Walton Added as New SASP Director of Development

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation is pleased to announce Mr. Kelvin Walton is joining the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) staff as Director of Development. Walton will report to Rick Leach, SASP National Director.

“SASP is excited to have Kelvin join our staff and help grow SASP,” said Leach. “Kelvin’s past business experience as well as serving as both a SASP and a SCTP coach gives him the knowledge to explain both our youth development programs to schools, future athletes, and coaches as he works with them to get more athletes participating in our safe and enjoyable sport.”

After 20 years of full time military and law enforcement service, Kelvin spent the last 8 years as a manager with a global private security company.  He will be able to utilize his strong management, leadership and organizational skill to help grow SASP.  Kelvin is pursuing his master’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in non-profits.

Kelvin was a longtime youth baseball coach and started out as a parent volunteer with SCTP and SASP. He is an assistant trap and pistol coach with Ozaukee Scholastic Shooting Sports (WI) and holds current  NRA Level 1 Pistol coach, Level 1 Trap coach, and Range Safety Officer certifications.  Kelvin has assisted with SASP and Pheasants Forever banquets.  He also works with local veterans groups and helped coordinate a fundraising trap shoot for Healing Patriots.

“I am excited to be part of SASP and promoting youth shooting sports,” said Walton. “I look forward to working with existing teams and helping new teams start up. ”

Walton’s first day with the SASP will be April 9th and he will be working primarily from his home office in Grafton, WI.

RUGER® Engraved 50th Anniversary 357 Mag Blackhawk to Benefit SASP

Ruger Firearms has generously donated a revolver to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). The revolver is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through April 25, 12:30PM eastern time.

The Ruger® Blackhawk® single-action revolver in .357 Magnum was Sturm, Ruger’s first-ever centerfire revolver and is the foundation of the legendary Ruger single-action family. Available only in 2005, the 50th Anniversary New Model Blackhawk offers a unique opportunity to own a revolver with the look and feel of the original “Flat Top” design and all the benefits of 50 years of continuous refinements. Like the 1955 Ruger Blackhawk, the 50th Anniversary New Model Blackhawk is chambered in .357 Magnum with a 4-5/8 inch barrel. It offers many original features including a blued, original Blackhawk-size “Flat Top” frame with a micro-adjustable rear sight, and a smaller pre-1962 “XR-3” grip frame with checkered “hard rubber” grips bearing original-style black Ruger medallions. This 50th Anniversary New Model Blackhawk has a serial number of 520-02060 and was roll marked March 16, 2005. It was shipped to Automated Finishing for engraving work and features a Western-style scroll engraving on the top strap, cylinder, cylinder frame, and grip frame. This engraved model WAS NOT a regular production. The revolver has been stored in its original red plastic 50th Anniversary Blackhawk case along with an anniversary booklet, original instruction manual, marketing materials, case lock and keys. Auction for Ruger 25th Anniversary .44 Carbine

Ruger Firearms has generously donated a 25th Anniversary .44 Carbine rifle to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). The rifle is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through April 4, 12:30PM eastern time.

The serial number is 103-13221 and the rollmark date is September 29, 1982. In 1985 Ruger announced that, after 25 years of continuous production, it would stop manufacturing the famous Model 44 autoloading carbine. Ruger offered a Special Edition of 1,800, 25th Anniversary .44 Carbine rifles to celebrate the close of an era. The anniversary rifle was listed in the 1985 catalog and the suggested retail price was $495.00. The 25th Anniversary Model 44 Carbine shows the compact design and classic lines which contributed to the great success of this model. These Limited Edition rifles are specially rollmarked “1961 – 1985 ~ 25th ANNIVERSARY” on the barrel, and they have a specially designed nickel silver medallion set into the walnut stock. Features of this rifle include an American walnut stock with a barrel band at the front of the forend. a folding-leaf rear sight with a reversible U/square notch plate adjustable for elevation and a gold bead front sight. The frame is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. It also features a curved, metal butt plate and tubular magazine that holds four cartridges. The 25th Anniversary .44 Carbine will be shipped in a special Anniversary box along with an original manual, purchaser record card, and a “Firearms Safety Depends on You” booklet. Also included in this auction is a .44 Carbine 25th Anniversary medallion, along with a “blank” box end label and a 25th Anniversary decal.
